Re:Dealing with depression 8 Months ago Karma: 1
The events of Jan left me very saddened . A good man passed away and it was a personal shock to me.

Here is a person, fit healthy, in charge, successful business and life , loving family , enthusiastic, cheerful , empowered - and yet no longer with us.

If you're feeling down - talk

Talk to someone :

A friend - tell them that you're having a tough time.
Your GP - get a referral - quickly
Salvation army

Talk to anyone that you think could help or direct you. When you are in a negative train of thought, best to break the cyle - talk get it out develop mechanisms to assist you breaking the cycle of negative self talk.

Avoidance :-

Prescription medication
Alcohol
Illegal drugs
Sex
Serial Relationships
other....

are no substiture for inner peace.

The choice is all yours - Talk , TALK , AND TALK.

Dear Sunil,

It would be great if you could share more thoughts to deal with depression. Here is what am used to treat anxiety and depression.

Mindful of Breath.
Mindfulness of breath is a Buddha's reaching to calm the mind. This is the main meditation technique of Buddha. This technique is strong and powerful. But there is a very long way to go to attain the results expected by Buddhism.

But if you start to practice 'Mindfulness of breath' in preliminary level you could easily fight anxiety and depression.

Re:Dealing with depression 7 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 1
Firstly - my interest in this topic stems from 2 things :

1) anyone who has been into my store will know I am interested in what I do,
my products and my customers.

2) In the 30 odd years of doing this - I have noticed the mental issure topic
reocurring in so many ways :

1) Childhood issues
2) Marital
3) children
4) Substance abuse
5) Peer pressure
6) Schizophrenia, etc...
7) other

My beef is in how it contaminates everything around - with its melancholy - in so many ways....when you're driving - that road rage - the boss at work - your bank loan ! - peoples behavious to loved ones and strangers....

Its' simply fixed ! ( in a couple of seconds with my DVD - )

but the point is it can be a start which is better than the angry person trying to run me down at the lights.

My lessons were :

1) It is more common than we imagine or let on. Most will hit the wall
at some stage or other - briefly or extended.
2) No one is bad or wierd for it . In fact, I think sanity is a malady.
3) It's hidden and private. and the privacy is the toxic component as it isolates the pain compounding it ( hence I was moved to post previously )

So my thoughts :

1) Recognise a dis, ease.
2) Act upon it in a positive and pro active way

- it might be saying "help me "

Find a positive - trustworthy - helpful - unbiased solution

3) Treat it - preferably honestly and without chemical and abnuse of any sort
drugs, alcohol, sex, .....denial habits

4) Practice daily

5) Talk

6) Grow

The flow of meditative can inspire exhilaration and excruciating peace . but for the restless mind , it's a skill to be practised with a single thought a single breath.

Meditating is good but at the end of the day - you still need to understand why - maybe that's a part of the mediation......and meditation can take many ways ----

this sounds stupid - but surfing - making models - sitting still with your cat are all forms of practising stillness - creating space for breath - life giving breath
